Rubber and Plastic Additives: Lighter, Stronger, Greener
Physical Blowing Agents | Lightweight Fillers | Modifiers
Crerax Microspheres are micron-sized "tiny balloons" with a thermoplastic shell encapsulating a blowing agent. When heated during material processing, the unexpanded microspheres soften and expand as the internal gas expands, increasing their volume by 80-100 times and reducing density to as low as 20 kg/m³. This creates a dense, closed-cell structure invisible to the naked eye within the material.
  • Reduces material density
  • Provides thermal and acoustic insulation
  • Enhances surface properties and texture
  • Improves resilience and compressibility
  • Reduces raw material consumption, lowers costs, and supports decarbonization

Suitable Materials & Processes
Suitable Materials & Processes
Crerax expandable microspheres are designed for use with thermoplastics (PVC, PP, PE…), thermosets (polyurethane, epoxy, phenolic, unsaturated polyester resins…), thermoplastic elastomers (TPR, TPV, TPU…), rubber (EPDM, silicone, NBR, BR…), coatings, paper, and adhesives. They are compatible with processing methods such as injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, and calendering, requiring no significant changes to existing equipment or processes. Even low loadings deliver exceptional performance. For example, adding just 1% microspheres in extrusion can reduce density by 10–30%.
Product Categories
Crerax expandable microspheres are divided into two primary categories: Unexpanded and Expanded. We also provide Water-Based Slurry microspheres designed for aqueous applications. Different particle sizes enable versatile surface effects and density reduction outcomes. Additionally, Crerax supplies lightweight functional masterbatch products based on SBS, EVA, and EPDM, as well as innovative organic-inorganic composite microspheres, meeting diverse polymer processing needs.
More
Applications of Expandable Microspheres
Lightweight
Lightweight
Microspheres create dense, closed-cell structures, reducing material density by 10–30% with just 1% loading in processes like injection molding or extrusion. This slashes raw material use while preserving performance, offering cost and resource savings in applications like shoe soles, automotive weather strips, and artificial marble.
Resilience
Resilience
Microspheres, like tiny balloons, provide resilience and compressibility, enhancing sealing in automotive seals and wine corks, stone chip resistance in automotive underbody coatings, and a soft feel in leather and other materials.
Thermal Insulation
Thermal Insulation
Microspheres create a closed-cell microstructure in materials such as architectural insulating coatings and automotive adhesives. This structure significantly reduces thermal conductivity and enhances barrier properties, delivering excellent thermal and acoustic insulation for noise reduction.
Surface Modification
Surface Modification
Microspheres of varying particle sizes create special surface effects—such as matte, suede, and velvety finishes—in wallpapers, textile printing inks, leather finishing, and artistic paints. They deliver a soft, rich tactile experience.
Structure & Space
Structure & Space
Microspheres' uniform and controllable foaming adjusts the microstructure of materials like heat-release tapes, CMP pads, emulsive explosives, and paper/board, enhancing properties such as debonding, stiffness, reduced warpage, and improved processing and filling performance.
Sustainability
Sustainability
By displacing significant volume within materials, Crerax microspheres reduce the consumption of plastics, rubber, and other raw resources. This enables plastic and carbon reduction in packaging applications, while also serving as a sustainable alternative to traditional chemical blowing agents in footwear and synthetic leather for automotive interiors.
